Yep, a client and I once ate the bacon from the very same pig, many many moons ago.
How is it possible that I know this for a fact, you ask? Well the short version of the story is this – Once upon a time in the tiny town of Cut-And-Shoot, Texas lived a young man named Billy, who happens to be my cousin. (Yes, everyone has a little backwoods country in their family!) Billy and the rest of his brothers participated in the famous Montgomery County Fair every year. They raised all manner of livestock on their land to show at the fair, but the pigs were the prizes of the bunch. My cousins usually won prizes for their fantastic show pigs…and then we would bid the pigs farewell only to meet them again shortly on our breakfast plate.
The Fair was a big deal – my family and I would drive to Cut-And-Shoot, stay at the farm with my aunt, uncle, and cousins, and attend the fair. Of course, Cousin Billy’s long-time girlfriend was always there for just about every big family occasion, so it wouldn’t be too long after the fair when we’d all sit down to break bread together in one of Aunt Barbara’s big country breakfasts and enjoy whichever prize hog got slaughtered that spring.
Fast forward about 15 years – a lovely gal by the name of Amy hires me to do her makeup for her wedding. As we are talking over her wedding preparations, she mentions she’s from Conroe (about 6 miles from Cut-And-Shoot). I reply that I think she’s probably familiar with Cut-And-Shoot, where my cousins were from. “I dated a boy from Cut-And-Shoot all during high school!” she says. Of course I’m thinking, what are the odds? But I say, “You and cousin Billy are about the same age…” and she interrupts and says “Billy P—-??” We both freak out. Amy was the very same girlfriend that spent every holiday, birthday, New Years Eve, soccer game, and County Fair bounty with us all those years! How crazy is that???
So, courtesy of Brad Helgerson of Rewrites Media, here is the link to the video of me doing Amy’s wedding makeup and her telling the story of how, once upon a time, we ate the same pig.

Just a note, the first 3 minutes are the bride and me doing her makeup. The vid is actually about 6 minutes long and the last half is the groom Dane, but feel free to watch all the way thorough and check out Brad’s work!
